PECULIARITIES OF THE REALISATION OF SPEECH ACTS IN DISCURSIVE STRATEGIES OF ENGLISH PROTESTANT SERMON
Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the strategies and tactics that are used by the preacher in English protestant sermon. This paper focuses on the dependence of discursive strategies on the communicative intentions of the preacher and their studying from the standpoint of the theory of speech acts.
The aim of our scientific search is to reveal the correlation of discursive strategies and tactics with the illocutionary types of speech acts functioning in English protestant sermon. The article defines a set of discursive strategies and tactics, which depend on the preacher’s communicative intentions. It also clarifies the types of illocutionary speech acts characteristic of each discursive strategy.
The article gives the definition of speech act and discursive strategy and specifies the main approaches to the classification of these concepts. It is noted that the persuasive strategy is a global strategy of English protestant sermon.
Local strategies correspond to the additional communicative goals of the preacher: the contact establishing strategy (phatic) answers the purpose to attract and retain the attention of the recipient; explanatory strategy – to provide and explain information on the basic principles of Protestantism; argumentative, manipulative and suggesti
